Hill districts contract basis teachers raise demand for regularisation

Imphal, October 28 2021: The All Manipur Hill Districts Contract Basis Teachers' Welfare Association-2006 has appealed to the State Government to regularise the teachers who have been working on contract basis in various hill districts of Manipur.

The above appeal was made during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today.

Speaking to media persons, spokesperson cum advisor of the association, K Haokip said that 1,332 teachers were appointed for hill districts in Manipur in 2006 and now there are around 630 teachers after the new verification process.

Expressing discontent that the Government has not initiated any measures for the regularisation of the said teachers, he said that the teachers are facing many inconveniences.

He continued that the remuneration of the teachers which is just a minimal amount of Rs 4000 per month is also pending since 2008 and it has added more woes to the already suffering teachers.

Hence, he sought the immediate attention of the Government into the matter and to release the pending amount at the earliest.

Talking about the appointment of teachers, he said that the teachers were appointed after ATSUM imposed a 52 days economic blockade in 2006 demanding to solve the problem of shortage of teachers in hill districts.

Subsequently the teachers were appointed on contract basis based on local preference and merit basis after signing an MoU between ATSUM and the then Government, he added.

He also maintained that the Chief Minister also gave assurance of regularising the said teachers within two months during a meeting convened at the CM conference hall in August, 2019 attended by ATSUM,ANSAM and KSO-GHQ but unfortunately no steps have been taken up for the said process till date.

K Haokip also urged the Government to take up immediate measures to regularise the teachers in view of the hardships faced by such teachers who had sacrificed their career to the call of the needs of the students in the hills and duties towards the Government since 2006 .
