Police officer accused

A 52-year-old shopkeeper has accused a police officer of Porompat police station of thrashing him without any reason and wrongfully detaining him at the police station on fabricated charges.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Abdul Hakim s/o (L) Abdul Halim of Kshetrigao Mamang Leikai said that he runs a wholesale garment shop at Rupmahal Tank.
At around 2.30 pm on April 21, a team of Porompat police station led by ASI Akhtar Hussain of Yairipok Khongjin allegedly beat him up in his shop in full public view, Abdul Hakim said.
He further said that he was later taken to Porompat police station and charges under FIR Number 103 (4) 2015 of Porompat police station under Section 447/506/307/34 and 27 Arms Act were framed against him.
Abdul Hakim said that the police officer also told the Court of Imphal East CJM that a short barrel gun was recovered from his possession yesterday.
However, the Court granted him bail, Abdul Hakim said.
