Imphal Lit Fest sits pretty with Sangai Fest

Imphal Literature Festival, a 3-day event as a part of the Manipur Sangai Festival 2022 has been launched at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal today.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh said literature and art bind 'our society together as one'.
The Imphal Literature Festival will help promote and propagate Manipuri literature at the global literary platform and understand world literature, added the Minister.
Literature provides a way to interact and understand one another's culture, he said.
He also urged the visiting delegates from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other countries and States to travel and visit different places of Manipur and learn her literature, culture and history.
On the first day of the literature festival today, several books were released.
The books released include 'Voices Now World Poetry Today (International Anthology of English Poetry)' edited by Braja K Sorkar and Binay Lalita; 'Leigi Laisang' (Essays) written G Binamadhav Sharma and 'Mangalgee Lambi' a poetry by Ranjita.
Sangai Award was also presented to Environmental Social Reformation & Sangai Protection Forum, Keibul Lamjao.
Poetry and short story reading was also organised at the event.
The second and last day of the festival will be held at Marjing Polo Complex and Mandha island, Loktak respectively.
Zonal Director Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) North East Munish Ningthoujam, Poet and Deputy Director Bangla Academy Dhaka Md Sahadat Hossain, and eminent writer Ayatthurai Santhan of Sri Lanka attended the event as president and guests of honour respectively.
The festival is being organised jointly by Sahitya Thoupang Lup (Sathoulup) Imphal in collaboration with Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Meghalaya; Phunga Heritage, Shillong; and JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal.
The festival is sponsored by the Tourism Department and supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), North East.
