Lamka, May 08 2012:
Churachandpur placed before the visiting vice-chairman of National Commission for Minorities HT Sangliana a voluminous grievances, seeking his intervention in addressing them and for settling them amicably.
The district's student body, CDSU stated before Sangliana that they were in dark regarding the fate of a magnanimous scholarship scheme under the PM's schemes for development of minority community.
Many students both pre-matric and post-matric have applied for the same but most didn't avail the scheme till date, it claimed.
It added that the union is suspicious of the fund being misappropriated.
Further alleging that the entire exercise for availing the scheme was centralized at Imphal, much to their disadvantage, a memorandum was submitted to Sangliana seeking his intervention to establish a minority cell in the district; disbursement of scholarships through the cell; opening of coaching centre for competitive exams conducted by UPSC and SSC in Churachandpur and upgradation of ITI centre at Saikot.
The JAC of Khuga Dam has also highlighted before the visiting dignitary how Khuga Dam has barely reduced to a collapsing water supply project.
Accompanying Sangliana, yesterday, the JAC said he had seen for himself that no water flows on the purported irrigation canals and highlighted the actual state of its power component.
He was not impressed with the water supply components either, said Lalpu Hangshing of the JAC.
Sangliana in response has reportedly told the JAC that public pressure would be essential to fully realize the purpose of the multipurpose dam.
