Imphal, May 08 2012:
In what could be seen as a prelude to a possible political dialogue, NSCN/GPRN delegates held a meeting with officials of the Government of Myanmar some time back.
The NSCN delegates comprised of six members namely Y Wangtin Naga, Kilonser Chowangsing, Kilonser Angkan, Kilonser P Tikhak, Brig Angami and RCM Shanwang.
Officials of the Government of Myanmar comprising of six members were led by Minister for Border Area Development Col Kyiniang.
During the meeting, NSCN delegates claimed that NSCN is an authentic political institution struggling for Naga sovereignty with mass support of the Nagas across the artificial boundary.
Y Wangtin Naga said that both the Government of Myanmar and NSCN have realised the futility of military confrontation which has lasted for almost six decades and hence the ceasefire.
Notably, NSCN/GPRN and Myanmar signed a cease-fire agreement on April 9, 2012 at Khamti town.
Y Wangtin also recalled the history of Myanmar Govt and Naga people for the past six decades as the history of tears and blood, wars and conflicts.
All the elements of distrust that existed between the two sides should be removed.
When Union of Burma became a sovereign nation on January 4, 1948, Naga people did not join the Government because both in India and Burma, the Nagas were struggling for independence from the British but the colonial rulers left the fate of the Nagas in the hands of Burma and India, Wangtin said.
