Ukhrul DM seals UHSS quarantine centre

Ukhrul, June 07 2020:
With five persons quarantined at Ukhrul Higher Secondary School testing positive for coronavirus today, the District Magistrate of Ukhrul, Joseph Pauline Kamson has sealed the whole campus of the school and the surrounding areas with immediate effect.
An order to this effect, declaring the school at Wino Bazar as a containment zone was notified today afternoon.
Any person or group found violating the order will be punishable under the of Disaster Management Act 2005 .
According to District Surveillance Officer Dr Pamreila Grace, a rapid response team of District Hospital, Ukhrul rushed to the quarantine centre to disinfect and sanitize the whole campus.
Subsequently, all the five persons were evacuated from UHSS centre to RIMS hospital, Imphal for further treatment.
All the five persons who tested positive were returnees from Mumbai, three persons are females and two are males and quarantined at the said school.
Ukhrul medical team has been relentlessly monitoring all quarantine centres by attending all emergency calls in order to ensure the safety of all quarantine centres.
Altogether 12 persons from Ukhrul district have tested positive for the virus, out of of which three persons have recovered from the disease.
According to reports available to this correspondent, over 4325 returnees have been screened and are in different quarantine centres, and samples of 2102 have been collected.
935 persons have already received test results so far.
With more and more people coming back, at least two quarantine centres are activated on a daily basis and this has burdened the district administration and the people.
The CSOs of Ukhrul district have been persistently pressuring the State Government to establish a separate COVID-19 testing lab in the district so that those in the quarantine centres may be tested faster.
