Seven days police remand for Karnajit

Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East remanded Kangujam Karnajit to seven days police custody till June 8 for allegedly selling a building using forged land records.
Karnajit was produced before the Court of CJM Imphal East through video conferencing along with a prayer for seven days police remand.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that on January 30, 2016, a written complaint was lodged by one Soram Gayatri of Lalambung Makhong Takhellabam Leikai, stating that Karnajit, director of Global Youth Forum under UNESCO, had approached her for opening its branch office at her land at Soibam Leikai for a yearly rent of Rs 4,80,000 .
Thereafter an unregistered lease/deed/rental agreement dated January 4, 2014 for a period of 5 years was duly executed and signed.
However, it was learnt from the local people that the accused had sold the land to one Khomdram John of Haobam Marak Irom Leikai without her knowledge and on further enquiry, K John sold the land to another person Gaihamsung Phoumei, the IO charged.
The accused then fled from the State.
In the further course of the investigation it was learnt that the accused and one of his lady associates impersonated as the complainant and sold the homestead land fraudulently, the IO said and added that the land was sold in the presence of Moirangthem Takaboi of Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak and Sub Register of IE/ SDC Headquarters Porompat Sub Division Soraisam David of Sagolband Yambem Leirak.
Saying that K Karnajit, apart from admitting the charges levelled against him, revealed that he had duped many individuals and took shelter in different parts of India, the IO added that the accused, if not arrested, will commit further offences.
On perusal of the case record, material produced before the Court and after hearing the submission of the IO remanded K Karnajit to police custody till June 8.He was arrested on May 31 .
