Imphal, August 29 2015 : The 84th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was set into motion with the unveiling of a bronze statue of the freedom fighter at Haipou Jadonang park, Keishampat by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today.

Organised by the Organising Committee of Haipou Jadonang Statue and Park Development Committee, Manipur, the 84th death anniversary observation of the late freedom fighter was graced by the CM and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as chief guest and president respectively.

The unveiling of the 9 feet bronze statue of Jadonang followed by a candle lighting and floral tribute session marked the beginning of the commemorative function held at Haipou Jadonang Park, Keishampat today.

The gathering also observed a two-minute silence in honour and memory of the sacrifices made by the late freedom fighter.

A book titled, A brief biography of Haipou Jado- nang, published by the organising committee was released during the commemorative event.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said the story of the courage and sacrifices made by Haipou Jadonang lives within the people even after 84 years of his death.

The State Government has urged the Minsitry of Human Resource Development to include the life history of Jado- nang in the syllabi of standards I- X text books.

The proposed construction of Jadonang memorial hall at Haipou Jadonang's native village in Tamenglong would be completed within a short time with allocation of necessary fund from the State Government.

The Government may also consider expansion of the existing Haipou Jandong park at Keishampat, if feasible, the CM added.

The CM further assured that a statue of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu along with a musuem and library will be established at Imphal shortly in memory and recognition of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighter for the State.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, during his speech said Haipou Jadonang crusaded for the freedom of the land from the clutches of British colonial rulers regardless of community, tribe and religion.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Ibobi Singh, the State Government has been working to develop both the valley and the hill areas equally, Gaikhangam said.

Describing Haipou Jado- nang as an individual who campaigned to protect the indigenous people from foreign rulers, the CM and Dy CM reaffirmed that the Government of Manipur would never relent from its objective of safeguarding the territorial and emotional integrity of the land.

The function was attended by Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, RD and PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh, Vice Chairman of HAC Z kikhonbou Newmai, Deputy Speaker MK Preshow, Parliamentary Secretary TA and Hills Victor Keishing, MLAs T Mangibabu Singh, Janghemlung Panmei and K Ranjit Singh, former MLA Dr Kh Loken Singh, ZU (A/M/N) Amu Kamei and Deputy Mayur IMC Ph Thambaljao Phaomei as guests of honour.

Among other distinguished leaders, civil society organisation leaders and people irrespective of communities attended the function.

In the meantime, Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak (TRC) Council of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland also held a commemorative programme on the occasion of the 84th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at Kulum Kai, Chingmeirong, Imphal.

The gathering paid rich floral tributes along with prayers for the departed soul.

A two-minute silence was later observed as a mark of respect for the late freedom fighter.

Lanbilung Golmei, Associate Professor of Imphal College delivered a lecture on the history of Jadonang during the function.

The 84th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was also observed at Ragailong village, Imphal today under the aegis of Ragailong Youth Club.

K Tomba, Ragailong Pei, lighted the anniversary candle and the gatherings offered floral tributes to the portrait of the departed leader.

A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to Jadonang.

Ragailong Pei, Women Society members and villagers attended the programme.
