12 Congress MLAs resigned from MPCC posts; but says there is question of leaving the party

12 Congress MLAs of the Manipur Legislative Assembly who are holding key post in the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee today tender resignation from their post on moral ground in connection with the defeat of the Congress candidate at both Inner and Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituencies in the 17th Lok Sabha Election.
The Congress MLAs however said that they will not leave the Congress party but will start working at the grass root level.
Talking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here in Imphal today afternoon, Chief Whip of the Congress Party Govindas Konthoujam said that they MLAs of Congress party who are holding key post tender the resignation on moral ground.
"The Congress won at both the inner and outer Manipur Parliamentary constituencies and this time we could not retain the seats.
Taking the moral responsibility for the defeat we tender our resignation from holding the key post of the MPCC", Govindas said.
He however added that there is no question of leaving the congress party even though they quit the post.
MLA K Ranjit, the treasurer of the MPCC said that no congress MLAs will join the ruling party.
"Rumours spreading around about some Congress MLAs trying to join the ruling party are all baseless as the congress MLAs except those 8 who had already defected the party are all together and have no differences", K Ranjit said.
He said that they will work more to strengthen the party and will keep alive the people faith in them.
MLA Khumukcham Joykishan, the Vice President of the MPCC said that how could the congress MLAs who had always opposed the CAB join the party that is trying to bring it.
Joykishan further said that the BJP now have mojority in the Lok Sabha beside having a government here in the state.
"As promised by them it is sure that the BJP led NDA will surely bring up the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill.
"We the Congress party worried on who will stand for the people of Manipur when BJP introduces the CAB", Joykishan said.
He added that Congress party will always stand for the people of the state and will fight toth and nail if anything against the desire of the people is done.
Joykishan also stated that the way some people spread about Congress MLAs joining the ruling party is nothing but a desperate attempt to crush the unity of the Congress MLAs.
The MLAs who had tender resignation from the key post of the MPCC are - 1) N Loken (VP) (2) Kh Joykishan (VP) (3) Md.Abdul Nasir (VP), (4) D.D.Thaisii (VP) (5) Chaltonlien Amo (VP), (6) Govindas Konthoujam (Chief Whip), (7) K.Ranjit (Treasurer) (8) Alfred Kanggam Arthur (Gen Secy), (9) D K Korungthang (CLP Secretary) (10) R K Imo Singh (Gen Secy), (11) K Meghachandra (Gen Secy) (12) Fazur Rahim (Minority Cell Chairman) .
