Rajnath lauds Army, Assam Rifles

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has categorically stated that Indian Army and paramilitary forces will become the toughest security forces in the world in the near future as their strength has been growing each passing day.
The Defence Minister made the statement while interacting with the Indian Army and Assam Rifles officers and jawans at the Garrison Training Shed at IGAR (S) Headquarters at Mantripukhri today.
During the interaction, Rajnath lauded the Indian Army and Assam Rifles for taking a pre-emptive role to keep the National security intact.
Saying that every citizen of the country is serving the Nation in one form or another but "the profession of Army and other military forces is more than a profession and more than a service," Rajnath continued that the Assam Rifles has been working to bring the insurgents in the North East region to mainstream apart from guarding the Indo-Myanmar border.
The Defence Minister said that there is no room for racism in the Indian Army and other defence forces as their motto is only to serve the Nation.
Lauding the Indian Army for the valour shown during the India-China standoff, Rajnath said that people of the country are indebted to the Indian Army for their service to the Nation.
He also recounted the sacrifice made by freedom fighters such as Chandra Shekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh.
Ashfaqulla Khan and Khudiram Bose in the freedom struggle of India and the National pride they possessed.
The Defence Minister Rajnath also revealed that he wanted to join the Indian Army and even appeared for the examination to get into the forces but could not do so due to difficulties in his family.
"I want to share a story from my childhood.
I also wanted to join the army, and once I appeared for the examination of the Short Service Commission.
I gave the written exam.
But, because of certain situations in my family, including the death of my father, I couldn't join the army," he said.
"You will see.
if you give the army uniform to a kid, his personality changes.
There is a charisma in this uniform," he added.
The Defence Minister was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, GoC of Eastern Command Lieutenant General RP Kalita, GoC of Spear Corp Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, GoC of Red Shield Division Major General Naveen Sachdeva and other senior officers of Indian Army and Assam Rifles during the visit.
Before the visit, Rajanath Singh shared a breakfast with Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the residence of the latter at Luwangsangbam.
The Defence Minister landed in Imphal yesterday on a two-day trip to inaugurate the Manipur Chapter of Durand Cup.
