State records one more death, 144 fresh cases

The State today witnessed another COVID-19 death as an 86-year old man succumbed to the virus at RIMS, taking the toll to 46 .
Even as 144 fresh cases of COVID-19 infection were detected in the State during the last 24 hours, Chief Minister N Biren who shared dais with Works Minister Th Biswajit at a function held on September 11 where monetary assistance/loans were distributed to StartUp beneficiaries tested negative for the virus.
Incidentally, Th Biswajit tested positive for the virus on the same day.
An 86-year old man from Churachandpur was brought to RIMS on September 10 but he died at around 2.25 am today.
Apart from being COVID-19 positive, the man was also reportedly suffering from heart problems.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 144 people including 11 personnel of CAPF were tested positive for the contagion during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS, Thoubal, Raj Medicity, Shija Hospital, CMC, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Kangpokpi, Imphal East, Bishnupur, RD Wing, Babina Diagnostics and Maipakpi Hospital.
The fresh positive cases belong to Imphal West (63), Churachandpur (12), Thoubal (22), Imphal East (23), Kakching (1), Kangpokpi (2) and Bishnupur (10) .
Out of the 133 civilians who have been found infected by the virus, 117 have no history of travelling outside the State.
In the meantime, 89 COVID-19 patients have been discharged during the last 24 hours from RIMS (6), Kakching (5), CCC UNACCO (45), Jiribam (2), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (20) and CAPF (11) .
The total number of positive cases has reached 7875 (general population 6063, Central security personnel 1822) .
It includes 1638 active cases (general population 1338, Central security personnel 300) and 6191 discharged cases (general population 4682, Central security personnel 1509) .
The recovery rate stands at 78.61 per cent.
Meanwhile, 36 other people were found infected by the virus in Imphal West district.
While four of them are residents of Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leirak, four others are army personnel posted at Tulihal.
Clarification: The information that 44 residents of Keishampat Thiyam Leikai have been tested positive for COVID-19 as published in yesterday's issue was a typo.
It should be only four.
