Imphal, September 13 2020:
The Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation has drawn the attention of the State Government to help the family members, especially the mother of late Md Manjur Ahamed.
Md Manjur Ahamed, a Manipur police constable, died in a suspicious circumstance in police custody on March 30 last year.
He was taken into custody for his alleged link with a fugitive militant chief on March 17, MMWO recalled.
There has been no visible progress in the case relating to the death so far, it said while adding that the verbal agreements reached last year in the presence of the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and former MLA of the Andro Assembly Constituency have not been translated into action so far.
Considering the situation, MMWO after consulting with various CSO leaders, demanded that the mother of the deceased be helped at the earliest on humanity ground and fulfil the demands agreed earlier.
The demand included, special pay (full salary) to the mother of Md Manjur Ahamed till his service retirement period; an appropriate Government service to the next of kin of the deceased and speedy trial in connection with the suspicious death case.
The family of the late constable is yet to receive remuneration they are entitled to, it said, expressing suspicion of foul play while processing files at official levels.
MMWO along with other like-minded CSOs will take further course of action if the State Government fails to pay heed to the demands and do justice, it added.
