Govt buys peace, curfew on non-locals lifted

Following the State Government's assurance to release all the arrested JCILPS members including JCILPS Student Wing Convenor M Angamba, JCILPS Student Wing has lifted the curfew imposed on non-locals with immediate effect.
A JCILPS Student Wing team comprising of AMSU President Th Suresh, DESAM General Secretary P Premchand, MSF Vice President RN Koireng, AIMS Vice President L Sanjoy and SUK President Jayentakumar today met Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
MLA RK Anand, MLA Dr Ng Bijoy and MLA I Ibohalbi were also present at the meeting which started at 5 pm and continued till 8 pm at the Chief Minister's bungalow.
Speaking to reporters at NIPCO office tonight, Student Wing member Oinam Nandababu said that the Student Wing agreed to lift the curfew following Chief Minister O Ibobi's assurance that all the arrested JCILPS members who were arrested from September 8 would be freed by September 19 .
He added that the process to set them free in batches and without any conditions will start soon and added that all of them would be released by September 19 .

Saying that JCILPS would however continue their stir in a democratic way, Nandakumar said that the agitation would be intensified if the Government fails to translate their promise into action.
Before the student wing of the JCILPS withdrew the curfew imposed on the non-locals, the State police, unwilling to take any chances went on a special drive to provide security to the outsiders.
As part of the security measures taken by the State Government to protect non-locals police have picked up several non-locals from different parts of the valley districts and given them shelter at safe places.
According to an informed source, 75 non-locals including seven women, who were picked up from different localities of Imphal East district, are currently lodged at District Industry Centre office complex, Porompat under foolproof police protection.
Likewise, Imphal West district police have also brought 130 non-locals including three women from different places of the district and provided shelter at Dharamshala building, Thangal Bazar.
In Bishnupur district, 200 non-locals were picked up from localities like Nambol, Bishnupur, Moirang and Thanga and kept at Mini Secretariat Multipurpose hall.
Thoubal district police have also picked up 140 non-locals including 10 women to give them shelter at DC office mini secretariat complex.
Meanwhile, six JCILPS Women Wing members who were pulled up by the police yesterday were produced before the Duty Magistrate and remanded to police custody till September 16 .
In continued crackdown, police today arrested five more activists of the student wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System including the president of All Manipur Students' Union and Vice President of Manipuri Students' Federation.
