Apex body formed to look after issues of NE

An apex body to look after the issues of the North East region, North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP), was formed as a part of the North East People's Conference 2019 hosted by MANPAC in Imphal.
Speaking to media persons at City Convention Centre, MANPAC convenor Yumnamcha Dilipkumar said that during the convention, it was resolved that all the member State will nominate 3 individuals each as members of the Core Committee of NEFIP and MANPAC co-convenor Ningthouja Lancha has been elected as the convenor of the core committee.
The forum will have a State coordinating unit or State chapter to look after the coordinating activities with an objective to make the forum democratic and inclusive.

The forum also unanimously resolved to support all the organisations in various States demanding the implementation of ILP system, NRC and other legislation to regulate influx in their respective States as well as to oppose the impending threats resulting from CAB 2016.Dilipkumar continued that the forum condemned and opposed the anti-North East people policies of the Central Government which have threatened the lives, resources, habitats and demography of the region.
He explained that on February 16, MANPAC proposed the idea of a united North East region to oppose the CAB, during a public meeting in Imphal and following the meeting, MANPAC went to various North East States and met the leaders of various CSOs before hosting the North East People's Conference from April 1 till today in Imphal.
More than 65 delegates of various organisations from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura were present in the conference.
NEFIP core committee convenor Ningthouja Lancha, Mizoram social activist Ruatliana Fanai, COMSO Meghalaya Chairman Robert Kharjahrin, UNC Committee on Alternative Arrangement Chairman Asinpou Gangmei were also present during the press meet today.
