In light of the coming Lok Sabha election and to prevent any unwanted incidents during the election, the Assam Rifles has been given necessary directions to tighten security around the border areas of the State.
According to a reliable source, the Assam Rifles has been given strict directions to tighten security measures around the border areas so as to prevent any unwanted cross border activities which can hamper the coming election.
Pointing out that all international roads will be sealed from a day before the election, the source informed that a security meet, presided by Chief Electoral Officer PK Singh and participated by Central Paramilitary forces, District SPs, was held at CRPF IG conference hall at Langjing yesterday to discuss the security measures for the coming election.
The meet, which was also attended by Nodal police officer, ADGP L Kailun, iterated the roles to be played by the security forces during the election.
90 companies of Central Paramilitary forces have already reached the State and area domination process is currently underway, the source added.
It may be mentioned that out of the total 2862 polling stations in the State, 283 have been classified as critical and 225 have been classified as vulnerable polling stations.
The 90 companies of Central Paramilitary forces, including 15 companies of IRB in the State, will all be utilised in the first phase of the election while only 44 companies will be utilised in the second phase of the election, the source added.
