Death of 16 year old minor girl : Public meeting calls 48 hrs total shutdown from Apr 9

Demanding death penalty of all the persons involved in the death of a 16 year old minor girl from Yairipok Chandrakhong under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district, public of Chandrakhong village including villagers from its neighbouring areas and members of various CSOs, took out a protest rally from Chandrakhong village to Mayai keithel, organized by JAC against the killing of the minor girl today.
The public then staged a sit-in at Mayai Keithel.
Later, they marched to Chandrakhong Laibung Community Hall and held a public meeting.
In the meeting, many resolution were made including 48 hrs total shutdown of Manipur from April 9 to 10 as part of their agitation.
Placards which read as "We want justice", "Punish the murderers", "No bail for rapists", "Protect women and girl child", "Set-up enquiry committee", "Try the murderers through fast track court", "No mercy for criminals" were used in the public rally.
Speaking to the media persons, co-convener JAC, Kh Dhanabir said the public rally and meeting was organized to demand death sentence of the murderers of the 16 year old minor girl and to protest against the rising cases of crime and rape against women and girl child in the State including outraging the modesty of the women and commission of murder.
Various resolution were also taken in the meeting which include - more than one person were involved in the murder of the minor girl; formation of Independent Inquiry Commission comprising one High Court judge as chairperson and one retd IPS officer and one senior woman advocate as members to take charge of the investigation; post mortem report must be made available to JAC and the family members of the minor girl by April 8; all the culprits must be tried through first track court to give befitting punishment as per the law; and authority concerned must fulfill all the resolutions made by the JAC and public in the meeting by April 8 failing which JAC will call 48 hrs total shutdown of Manipur from April 9 to 10 .
The meeting was also attended by convenor, Window Forum for Conflict Manipur, K Gangarani; secretary, Women Action for Development, Shobita Mangshatabam; president, Khwairamban Keithel Lambi Mataida Potfam Fambi Lup, N Bina Devi; president, Watch Group Khangabok, L Thambalmani; and president, Joint Committee On People's Welfare Yairipok, M Ibotombi Khuman.
It may be mentioned that the minor girl from Chandrakhong Maning Leikai was found dead three days later on March 25 at around 1.30 pm at Leirongthel Ngamu Leirou Thokpi Khong near Thoubal Project Cannel No 1, after her alleged boyfriend called her out in the evening of March 22 .
Suspects from Leirongthel village were also arrested by the police on the same day.
All the suspects were produced before Special Judge, POCSO, Thoubal Court yesterday and were sent to jail on 15 days judicial remand.
