Manipuri Language Day on August 20

To commemorate the day Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian constitution, Manipuri Language Day State Level Celebration Committee along with Department of Art and Culture and Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation will jointly celebrate the 31st Manipuri Language Day at Maharaja Chandrakirti auditorium, here, on August 20.In a release, Committee convener Leihaothabam Sharatchandra informed that the celebration will be attended by chief minister N Biren, works minister Govindas Konthoujam, Tribal Affairs and Hills minister Letpao Haokip, Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba and education minister Th Basanta, among others.
Meanwhile, Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak informed that it will celebrate Manipuri Language Day at Manipur Press Club.
WAMA also declared the winners of the poetry competition held on the topic 'Maton Chongkhatlakliba Meetei Lon'.
Nongthongbam Chandramala Leima of Khabam Makha Leikai won the first prize for her poem 'Epa Yek Ema Lon', while Hasan Sana of Thoubal Moijing Awang Leikai (Ningthijabi Erol) and Pramodini Thounaojam of Tera Sayang Road Kuraomakhong (Eikhoigi Ema Lon) won the second and the third prize respectively.
Along with eight consolation winners, the prizes will be distributed on the occasion of celebrating the foundation day of the organisation which falls on September 25, it added.
