MLA calls for promoting indigenous religion

Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwar has called upon the Meetei community to uphold indigenous religion as Meetei Marup observed the 134th birth anniversary of Laininghal Naoriya Phulo (Phundrei) at its office premises at Wangkhei Thambalkhong on Thursday.
Attending the observance as chief guest, MLA Rameshwar said that Meeteis have their own indigenous religion but many are embracing alien faiths.
Difference in religions and faiths is one of the main reasons for lack of integration and unity among the community members.
As a result, the majority community is living in a sorry state in their own motherland and the situation demands unity among the Meeteis to make their future strong and secure, he said, while calling for upholding the indigenous religion.
Meetei Marup president Nongthombam Mangi Meetei presided over the function while Imphal East Up-Adhyaksha Dr Kshetri Tama and Thambalkhong GP pradhan Koijam Roma attended as guests of honour.
Salai Taret flag was hoisted and floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Naoriya Phulo on the occasion.
Chana Lukhoi Art Centre and Chana' Sanamahi Laining Lup also jointly organised the birth anniversary of Naoriya Phulo at Nungshikol Park, Chana under Lamlai assembly constituency with Village Development Committee Chana president Tompapu Meetei in the chair.
Laininghal Naoriya Phulo (Phundrei) Memorial Charitable Trust also observed the anniversary at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Pandam daily executive editor Namoijam Tomba, Apokpa Marup president Thokchom Kuber and AMRPSWA president Doren Khaba Nganba attended the event as chief guest, president and special guest respectively.
Apart from paying floral tributes to the portrait of the late leader, a seminar on 'Gift of Laininghal Naoriya Phulo's writings to the society' was also held as part of the observance.
