17th Senapati District Badminton Championship inaugurated

Senapati, August 18 2022: The 17th Senapati District Badminton Championship, 2022 being organised in memory of Ngouni Onesimus, retired inspector (Manipur Police) & former president of Senapati District Badminton Association, was inaugurated by DC Senapati Mahesh Hiralal Chaudhari at Multi-Purpose Indoor Hall, Rikhumai Taphou, on Thursday.

Thangkhochon Haokip, addl SP (L& O) Senapati, and members of Senapati District Women's Association and Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur were also in attendance.

RS Abel, president SDBA, in his welcome expressed grief over the loss of former district badminton leader Ngouni Onesimus and also gave a brief biography of Ngouni and his contribution in the held of badminton as SDBA president during his tenure from 2009 2016.Speaking as chief guest, DC Senapai Mahesh Hiralal Chaudhari, said that sports is the strength of Manipur state and badminton is the strength of Senapati district.

He further said that Senapati has a big indoor hall with around 16 badminton courts and he hoped for more such facilities in future as he urged the SDBA to keep the indoor hall in good condition because it is the pride of the district.

Guest of honour Thangkhochon Haokip in his speech stated that discipline is an essential foundation of any sports and stressed the need to inculcate the habit of discipline to go higher in one's life.

He also exhorted youngsters to stay away from drugs.

SDBA also felicitated two young badminton players of the district - Kyoveio Vemai, who won U15 singles event and Kalo Truman, who was the runner-up in the U15 doubles event at the recently concluded 39th Inter District & 66th State Open Badminton Championship, 2022.An exhibition match was played between district administration and SDBA as part of the opening event of 17th Senapati District Badminton Championship.

Players will compete in different categories during the competi tion which will conclude on August 20 .
