Imphal, August 18 2022:
An appeal has been made for a separate Directorate in the State for Disabled persons and for effective implementation of "The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD)Act, 2016".The above appeal was made by Disabled Development Association Manipur (DDAM), General Secretary, Younus Khan today while speaking at the 16th foundation day celebration of DDAM held at Samurou Awang Leikai Community Hall today.
He further expressed that the rights of the differently abled persons have been violated and they are unable to get their due share of benefits since the Rights of Persons with Disabiliteis (RPwD) Act, 2016 is not fully implemented in the country.
Expressing discontent over the Government's failure to take up necessary steps for the implementation of the above Act despite repetitive requests, he termed it as really unfortunate that the Government is being indifferent towards the problems of the differently abled persons in the society.
However the civil society organisations and student bodies have been working in the forefront for the well-being of differently abled persons in the State, he maintained.
Elaborating on the plights of differently abled persons, he opined that the vision of inclusive development can never be achieved without the upliftment of differently abled persons.
UCM general secretary Ng Deba Meetei; Manipur State Women Commission Member, Chousing Koireng; DDAM advisors Dr Kiran Yendrembam and Md Wahajuddin, IPAK president, Ksh Somorendro and KSA president Sukham Bidyananda also attended the occasion as presidium members.
