XVIIth Senapati District Badminton Championship inaugurated in memory of Lt Ngouni Onesimus

The XVIIth Senapati District Badminton Championship, 2022 was opened at Multi-Purpose Indoor Hall, Rikhumai Taphou, Senapati in memory of Lt Ngouni Onesimus, Inspector (retd), Manipur Police and Expresident of the Senapati District Badminton Association (SDBA).
The inaugural function was attended by Mahesh Hiralal Chaudhari (IAS) DC, Senapati as the chief guest, Thangkhochon Haokip, Addl SP (L & O), Senapati as the guest of honour in the presence of Senapati District Women's Association and Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur.
RS Abel, president, SDBA in his welcome note stated his grief for the loss of former district badminton leader, Lt Ngouni Onesimus.
Giving a brief biography of the late ex-president of the SDBA, Daniel Shangne, Secretary, SDBA stated that Lt Ngouni Onesimus had served in different social responsibilities in different spheres particularly in the field of sports apart from his departmental job.
While the SDBA missed a great leader from their midst particularly to the badminton fraternity, his contributions in the field of badminton in the district as well as to all the Hill Districts of Manipur is stated to be immense and praiseworthy.
The SDBA also gave away a posthumous award in remembrance of the late leader for rendering his selfless services and dedications.
Thangkhochon Haokip in his speech stated that he started playing badminton from Senapati as a field to promote discipline in one's life.
The Addl SP also urged the gathering to inculcate discipline as it would be a stepping stone to go higher in one's life.
While the Police are on war footing to eradicate drug abuse in the region, Haokip also urges all youth to stay away from such bad habits.
Speaking as the chief guest, Mahesh Hiralal Chaudhari, IAS, DC, Senapati while stating that sports is the strength of Manipur State, badminton is the strength of Senapati district.
Senapati has a big indoor hall with around 16 badminton courts and still hopes for more facilities in future to maintain the hall in proper manner which is the pride of the district.
The DC also urged all to contribute in sports in whatever possible way.
Talking on the sidelines of students, the DC urges all not to discourage any child for not getting good marks in books/studies adding marks do not justify one's capability, calibre or excellence.
The DC also assured all possible help from district administration to promote young sports lovers of the district.
SDBA also felicitated 2 young badminton players of the district including Kyoveio Vemai who bagged the championship in the Under 15 Single and Kyoveio Vemai and Kalo Truman who bagged the runners up in the Under 15 Double at the recently concluded 39th Inter District & 66th State Open Badminton Championship, 2022.Different categories of Under 13 years to 75+ will take part in the championship which will continue till August 20.Exhibition match was played between district administration versus SDBA before the commencement of the championship.
