Bronze medallist Gaihutlung felicitated

Powerlifter Gaihut lung Panmei was felicitated by Pongringlong Village Authority, Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM) and Lu Phwam (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) at his native village Pongringlong Charoipandongba, Kangpokpi district, on Thursday.
Gaihutlung Panmei lifted a total of 370 kg (squat 120kg, bench-80kg & deadlift-170kg) to claim the bronze medal in the 53kg sub-junior category at a national competition held recently at Kanhangad, Kasaragod, Kerala.
During the event, Gaihutlung Panmei thanked civil societies, his coach, Assam Rifles Tupul and JNV Tamenglong.
He also appealed chief minister N Biren Singh, minister Awongbou Newmai, MLA and HAC chairman D Gangmei, and MLA Janghemlung Panmei to support him in his preparation for the Asian Championship scheduled be to December in Dubai.
Brought up in a poor fam ily, Gaihutlung Panmei is currently studying in class 12 in JNV Tamenglong.
Since childhood, Gaihutlung has been dreaming of lifting his family out of poverty by becoming a successful sportsperson.
He had taken keen interest in boxing but due to lack of guidance he switched to powerlifting.
Gaihutlung has six brothers.
His father in a farmer.
Nearby village chairmen, youths and women society also participated in the felicitation programme.
