Imphal, August 18 2022:
While mentioning that the Chief Minister had already instructed in writing for distribution of the delayed urea share for farmers of Potshangbam Zilla Parishad; Imphal West up adhyakshya and Potshangbam ZP member Laishram Bobby Devi has urged the minister concerned to distribute the urea bags adequately.
Addressing a press meet held at her Khonghampat residence on Thursday, Bobby informed that there are around 3000 farmers under the ZP.
A letter from the CM instructing for distribution of 1500 bags for the first phase was submitted to the agriculture department, but the department refused citing that the minister concerned has not given the approval.
When the minister concerned was enquired, he responded his reluctance stating that the MLAs were trying to distribute the urea and as such, only 700 bags were distributed in two phases.
As the bags were not sufficient enough and Khongampat farmers were left out, 400 bags were distributed after prolonged and repeated requests.
As of now, 1500 urea bags are need for the areas under the ZP.
Even if the authority concerned is unable to provide the exact number of urea bags, at least 800 bags should be issued, as instructed by the CM.
The remaining quantity could be procured from the local market instead of releasing/selling the bags elsewhere.
The local bodies will purchase them, even if they are expensive, so as to provide them to the farmers, she stated.
