Tamenglong, January 08 2010: The open district level marathon race was held here at Tamenglong district HQs for both men and women organised by the Organising Committee, Marathon Race Tamenglong.

The 11 Assam Rifle of the Double First Team posted at Tamenglong wins all the prize categories in men marathon race.

Though very few people run the race enthusiastically, the reception function of the marathon race was dissatisfactory as the prizes were not handed over to the winners as Sumant Singh, IAS Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong who is the chief guest of the reception function of the marathon race and who supposes to bring the cash prizes failed to turn up today.

The organising committee later announced that the prizes will be distributed on the Republic Day celebration on 26 of this month.

However, the result was declared where all the first, second and third places were bagged by the Jawan of 11 AR of Double First team.

Mahavir Singh, T.Lalio and B.Prasad won the first, second and third places respectively.

The cash prize amount of the marathon were Rs.5000, Rs.3000 and Rs.2000 for first, second and third respectively.

In women's category, the first place was won by Padikamliu Daimei of Happy Villa, Tamenglong Ward No IV, Diphuiliu Pamei of New Salem Tamenglong Ward No IV and Sharon Panmei of Model Village, Tamenglong Ward No III were in the second and third places respectively.

The prizes were Rs.3000, Rs.2000 and Rs.1000 for first, second and third respectively.

Rev TP Mordecai, Executive Secretary of Rongmei Naga Baptist Association, Manipur encouraged the participants as well as the organising committee during the reception function held at the Mini Stadium Tamenglong.

In the meantime, while disclosing to Hueiyen Lanpao, H.Lunglei, President of the Zeliangrong Open Soccer for 2nd Rani Gaidinliu Memorial trophy said that the tournament will be held at Tousem HQs from january 25 to 30 next with Gaikhangam, President of MPCC and N Awangbou local MLA as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Inviting the clubs and organisations to take part in the 2nd Rani Gaidinliu Memorial trophy, he said that a cultural dance competition will be initiated and every night there will be a social night.
