National Games: Manipur repeat golden double with two silver, two bronze; back to fifth spot

Imphal, November 07 2023: After opening their campaign with a golden double on Monday, Manipur's judokas followed it up with five medals, including two gold, on the second day of judo competition at the National Games 2023 on Tuesday.

Manipur repeated their earlier success in judo by capturing two gold medals on Day 13 of the 37th National Games, in addition to two each of silver and bronze medals.

L Jagdish earned the gold medal for the state in the men's -66kg category while L Sanatombi claimed the top podium honour in the women's -48kg category, taking Manipur's gold medal haul in judo to four.

The day also saw L Monalish and H Sunibala claim silver medals in their respective categories.

Monalish finished second in the -48kg contest to bag the silver medal while Sunibala faltered at the final hurdle in the -63kg category to settle for her silver.

The state judo team also added two bronze medals to their medal collection cour tesy of N Sarda (-52kg) and I Kalpana (-63kg) .

The state judokas' stellar performances propelled Manipur to back to the fifth position in the medal table with 29 gold, 21 silver and 25 bronze.
