Imphal, March 05 2024:
The Court of Special Judge NIA Manipur has allowed the application filed by NIA to extend the judicial detention of Seiminlun Gangte, one of the accused in IED laden SUV blast case of June 21, 2023 at Kwakta along Tiddim Road, in Tihar Jail New Delhi, today.
The applicant sought a direction from the Court to the SP of Tihar Jail to extend the judicial custody of accused Seiminlun Gangte, s/o late Paokhokai Gangte of Phaikholum J Muntha, Churachandpur.
During the hearing, the Special PP of NIA submitted that three persons were injured in the explosion at Kwakta Ward no 7, Bishnupur and partially damaged the culvert in the area.
The Special PP also said that Seiminlun Gangte was also involved in another case taken up by NIA Delhi pertaining to 'transnational conspiracy to wage a war against India' .
Seiminlun Gangte was formally arrested on November 2, 2023 and he still is in judicial custody at Tihar Jail, New Delhi.
The Special PP further submitted that enough evidence has been collected and a process is underway to file a charge-sheet against him.
Saying that Seiminlun Gangte is likely to get a default bail on March 7, 2024 on completion of his judicial custody period in connection with the NIA Delhi case, the Special PP reminded that the accused was also remanded to judicial custody till March 8 in connection with the Kwakta blast case.
It is risky to bring Seiminlun Gangte to Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa at the moment due to the situation in the State, the Special PP reasoned and opined that the extension of judicial custody period of Seiminlun Gangte in Tihar Jail, New Delhi is highly necessary.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the Special PP NIA, ordered that intimation be given to the Superintendent, Tihar Jail, New Delhi to keep Seiminlun Gangte in judicial custody.
