CM assures 100-plus SFs with Casspir in Sugnu

Taking serious note on the recent attacks using bombs in Sugnu after some semblance of normalcy, Chief Minister N Biren said that the government will deploy over 100 security personnel with mine protected Casspir vehicles in the area.
Opposition members K Ranjit and Th Lokeshwar moved short duration discussion on the present situation in the foothills of Sugnu and Khundrakpam assembly constituencies to which CM Biren said that normalcy is returning gradually in the state with central and state forces deployed in foothill areas, including in Sugnu area where BSF and IRB personnel have been posted.
On the other-hand an agency report stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has provided Manipur 10 Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFVs) with mine protection features to enable the security forces in the state operate in a more effective manner.
An official said that of the 10 QRFVs, seven have already arrived in the state while three more are on the way.
The MHA provided the QRFVs to equip the security forces with enforcing law and order in a "very effective manner" in the state, an official said.
These QRFVs with mine protection features would greatly help in providing a safety net to the security forces while performing their duties at vulnerable spots, the official said.
The official further said that the Biren -led Manipur government continues to take up initiatives for strengthening security measures and the protection of lives and properties.
CM Biren Singh, who also holds the Home portfolio, on Monday inspected the QRFVs in Imphal.
Later, he posted on 'X': "As many as 10 of these armoured personnel carriers will be added to the state's arsenal for assisting the security forces in enforcing law and order at various locations".
During the discussion in the assembly, the chief minister informed that keeping in view of the incidents, the government is discussing policies to bring down number of security escorts from VIPs and utilise them in sensitive and vulnerable areas.
Napat area falls under the jurisdiction of Bishnupur SP but it is currently being overseen by SP Churachandpur, and the government is in process to revert the jurisdiction to SP Bishnupur.
Sugnu bridge will be repaired and security forces will be deployed in Napat area to facilitate rehabilitation of displaced residents, he said.
The CM also assured compensation to victims of Sugnu area and urged family members to visit DC Kakching for the same.
Regarding the query by MLA Lokeshwar, the CM said that joint forces have been deployed in some sensitive areas of Khundrakpam AC.
He acknowledged the contribution of civilians in protecting the state's integrity and public lives as well, which minimised the level of destruction to a great extent.
The government will provide the displaced people assistance and opportunities to restart their lives and improve their economy.
While bringing up the matter, MLA Ranjit highlighted the Peace Committee he formed on May 4 last year and how the committee managed to save lives of around 200 Meeteis stranded in different parts of Churachandpur district.
He expressed dissatisfaction for not including in the proceedings of the House the Breach of Privilege Motion he moved against the statement of the chief minister, who said that the Peace Committee was responsible for Sugnu going up in flames.
He demanded the leader of the House to withdraw his remark from the proceedings of the House.
