DESAM appeals for Governor's assent to newly passed HSLC & HSE Bill 2024

Expressing happiness upon the passing of The Manipur Prevention of Malpractices in HSLC and HSE Bill 2024 at the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly session yesterday, the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to the State Governor to give assent to the Bill.
Speaking to the media at DESAM Office located at Kwakeithel, Mayengbam Somorjit Meitei, president DESAM stated that after consistent pressure exerted by the student body, the State Cabinet on December 4, 2023 decided to create a penal law to punish malpractices conducted during the Class X and XII examinations.
Subsequently, the Manipur Prevention of Malpractices in HSLC and HSE Bill 2024 was passed at the State Assembly on March 4.At this juncture, DESAM has extended its thanks to all House Members, especially Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh.
The DESAM president also reiterated the organisation's long-standing demand for rationalization of college teachers to bring improvement in collegiate education.
He pointed out that according to National Education Policy 2020 regulations, children from pre-school level to Class V should be taught in their native tongue.
Stating that there is a failure to enforce this regulation on ground, he added that with the help of the concerned stakeholders, DESAM will take up necessary measures.
Referring to the positive reforms introduced in the Class X and XII examinations, he addressed the lapses of the "College Phagathansi Mission" and maintained that DESAM will intensify its efforts to bring reforms in college education and examinations.
