National Library Week 2023 observation kicks off

The Manipur University Library has kick started the observance of the National Library Week, 2023 with a formal inaugural function at its Conference Hall on November 14,2023 .
A release issued by Dr Memori Sagolsem, Deputy Librarian of the University, informed that the weeklong observation will continue till November 20, 2023 under the theme, "Library Service in Conflict Situation" .
AC Netrajit, co-ordinator of Ashangba Communication graced the function as an invited guest which was presided by Prof Ch Ibohal Singh, University Librarian (i/ c) of Manipur University & chairman of Observation Committee.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr Memori Sagolsem highlighted the significance of observing National Library Week by way of carrying out a number of innovative, academic, informative and educative programmes to cultivate reading habits of the masses, become regular readers in library systems, etc.
AC Netrajit opined that libraries having a cordial relationship with publishers, writers, critics and readership community plays a crucial role for societal development.
"Such observation will have an impact on the book lovers, library lovers and youth and this in turn will contribute towards the well being of the society", he added.
Prof Ch Ibohal Singh shared that National Library Week was observed for the first time in 1958 by the American Library Association under the theme "Wake up and Read".
"After a gap of 10 years, India started observing National Library Week in November 1968", he added.
He also highlighted the different activities to be conducted during the weeklong observation which includes training programmes for Anti Plagiarism Checking Software 'Drillbit Extreme' for faculties and scholars; online survey of 'Know Your University Library', 'Drop a Suggestion' to improve the library systems; slogan competition on 'Library Service in the Conflict Situation'; observance of World Toilet Day', etc.
Prof Ch Ibohal also formally launched the training programme of 'Drillbit Extreme' software.
It was followed by a presentation on the registration and plagiarism checking of aca-demic/research writings for scholars and faculties by M Lokendro Singh, Assistant Librarian.
The programme attended by scholars, students, faculties and staff, successfully concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by L Ranita Devi, Professional Assistant of the Library.
On the second day, Prof Ch Ibohal Singh launched the Online Assessment on 'Know Your University Library' by sharing the link to join the survey with different whatsApp groups of faculties, staff, scholars, students and uploading the same in the University website.
The campaign on 'Drop a suggestion' was also launched to collect suggestions from all the stakeholders of the University.
The training programme on plagiarism checking has also been successfully going on with a large number of participation from faculty members and scholars of different departments of the School of Humanities and School of Education.
The Reference Session on 'Finding Answers to Reference Queries' is scheduled to be held on November 17 at the Conference Hall of the University.
