Joykisan adopts displaced family
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, August 09 2023: Showing a goodwill gesture amid this troubling time in Manipur, Thangmeiband Constituency MLA Kh Joykisan has announced that he will adopt a particular kidney disease patient and her family whose house at Churachandpur had been burnt down by arms wielding Kukis.

The MLA also said that he along with Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) will bear the treatment of the patient Khoisnam ningol Kumam ongbi Binasakhi (58) of Churachandpur Tuibong Meitei Leikai who is undergoing routine dialysis until she recovers.

Binasakhi is one among hundreds of families whose houses have been flattened and razed to the ground amid the Meitei-Kuki conflict.

It may be mentioned that several Meitei families fled Churachandpur and other Kuki dominated areas after some sections of Kuki people launched a sudden attack on the Meiteis living in some hill district after the Tribal Solidarity March organised by All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) turned violent.

The action-reaction syndrome was also felt in Imphal after clips and video footage of Kuki militants and their associates burning Meitei houses and hurling abusive language went viral on social media.

Today, Joykisan and volunteers of TAKDO visited Binasakhi at JNIMS and enquired about her ailment and ordeal.

During the interaction, the MLA announced that he and TAKDO will bear all the treatment cost of Binasakhi and also adopt her family until a lasting solution to the ongoing conflict is brought.

Speaking to the media, Joykisan said that they decided to adopt Binasakhi and her family after due consultation with TAKDO and BJP Thangmeiband Mandal members as she has nowhere to return to after she is discharged.

Her house has been torched by Kuki militants, Joykisan said and reassured that they will adopt Binasakhi and her family until normalcy returns and the Government completes the resettlement and rehabilitation work.

Joykisan further said that another relief camp for displaced folks has been opened in Thangmeiband under the supervision of TAKDO.

Saying that they will also open a residential coaching camp for displaced students (Class V to Class X) shortly, Joykisan appealed to all prominent and wealthy people to adopt at least one displaced family each until there is normalcy in Manipur.

Son of Binasakhi, Rabindranath thanked the MLA and TAKDO for their kind-hearted gesture.

Saying that his mother has been undergoing dialysis even before the Kuki militants and their associates started attacking Meiteis village on May 3, he said that her mother was at a particular hospital at Guwahati when the ethnic-clash initially broke out.

Further stating that their house at Tuibong Meitei Leikai was torched by Kuki militants when they were at Guwahati, Rabindranath said that they were helped by Meiteis living in Assam during the nearly three-month treatment at Guwahati.

He went on to state that they returned to Manipur and admitted her mother at JNIMS about a week back as they could no longer afford the treatment and living cost at Guwahati.

Continuing that JNIMS Director Dr Deben and Medical Superintendent Dr Kh Lokeswar also extended big help to them in her mother's treatment, he said that they however have been given additional burden by the ongoing conflict.

"We have nowhere to return to at least for now as our house has been razed to the ground," he sighed.

Saying that he couldn't put any price tag on the assistance given to his family by Joykisan and the people of Thangmeiband, Rabindranath prayed for more MLAs to do what Joykisan has done to give some sort of solace to the displaced folks.
