Imphal, August 09 2023:
Forty MLAs of the State have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for complete disarmament to restore normalcy and peace in Manipur.
The MLAs placed 6 demands to the Prime Minister for Centre's proactive response to bring peace.
First, complete disarmament is key, they said, stating all groups including the insurgents and foreign fighters must be disarmed and all snatched weapons should be recovered.
Second, withdrawal of SoO Agreement with all those who have violated ground rules at the earliest is recommended to remove any disadvantages for the Central force with regard to the rule of engagement with the threat, said the memorandum.
The MLAs then urged the Centre to implement NRC (National Register of Citizens) and to reject the separate administration as demanded by the ITLF/Kukis.
They urged the Centre to strengthen Autonomous District Councils and ensure conduct of elections.
Lastly, the MLAs appealed the Centre to initiate peace talks between the warring groups and bring about a lasting solution to the crisis.
