Imphal, August 09 2023:
Ex-MLA RK Anand has exclaimed that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should clarify for portraying the whole Meitei community in a bad light to the outside world based on a viral video which surfaced on the internet.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, RK Anand said that it is very unfortunate for the Prime Minister of India who is the head of the Parliament, the largest law making body in the country, to remain silent over the current crisis in Manipur.
However, it is also equally unfortunate that the Prime Minister broke his silence on the Manipur issue after a viral video, during which he had portrayed the Meiteis as a community which does not respect women and who loves to commit crime at the slightest instance.
His statement based solely on a viral video was one sided.
As a leader of a country, he should have not made the statement.
His statement has made the outside world look at Meiteis with a different eye.
Therefore, the Prime Minister should clarify in the parliament in this regard, he demanded.
Stating that the government is not performing its duty efficiently in connection with the present crisis in the state, RK Anand further stated that Article 355 has not been imposed in the state and this has been made clear by commissioner (Home) in his status report submitted to Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC).
The government has all the required powers.
It is only that the government is not exercising the powers.
