Bpr, August 09 2023:
After the intense public movement coupled with separate orders of the high court and Union home ministry prevented Kukis' attempt to bury dead bodies at Torbung Bangla, both the state and Central governments had talked about preventing the burial ceremony at the same place.
Stating this during a press conference at Phougakchao Ikhai Bazar on Wednesday, COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said that indigenous Meetei people are disallowed to enter their native places at Torbung Bangla, Waikhurok and Kangvai on the International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples observed throughout the world on Wednesday.
While stating that the ongoing movement being launched by youth is to save the motherland, Jeetendra Ningomba called upon all the indigenous people to save the motherland collectively and defeat outsiders who are trying to break apart Manipur.
COCOMI media coordinator Somorendro Thokchom, who also attended the press conference, said that many Meetei people are being continually attacked by Chin-Kuki-Narco-Terrorist with guns and bombs since May 3 while hundreds of Meetei houses and innumerable properties have either been burned or destroyed.
Many Meetei people who fled their respective homes due to the attack are currently taking shelter at many relief camps, he added.
According to Somorendro Thokchom, Torbung Bangla is associated with the history of Manipur and accordingly Kukis killed in the ongoing conflict cannot be buried at Torbung Bangla.
Kukis' attempt to bury dead bodies at Torbung Bangla was a well-chalked out plan and challenge against the Meetei people, he said, while pointing out that the ongoing war started on May 3 and the Kukis planned to bury dead bodies on August 3 .
He also called upon indigenous people of Manipur to defeat the plan that Kukis chalked out for three months.
Kukis prevent entry of state forces in their areas for fear that all their illegal activities would be stopped, he added.
