Imphal, August 09 2023:
All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Manipur will continue to stand against labour laws even during the current crisis in the state, said AITUC Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar.
He was participating in a protest meet against labour laws as part of the yearlong nationwide protest by central trade union organisations, at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday.
Sotinkumar went on to say that the new labour codes, which are part of the neo liberal economit policies of the Modi government, infringe on the rights of labourers.
The nationwide protest is against not only the policies of the government but also the BJP, which is bringing up such laws, he said.
Regarding the current ethnic conflict in the state, Sotinkumar said that the silence of the government shows the failure of the government in containing law and order situation in the state.
AITUC Manipur has been part of the ongoing movement against the illegal immigration, illegal poppy cultivation, and the current crisis initiated by Kuki militants with the objective to disintegrate the state.
The union has been mounting pressure on the Centre to control the violence and restore peace in the state, he said.
He also informed that AITUC Manipur will launch a series of agitations after August 15 with regard to the current crisis and during their movement, the union will not only raise demand for food security but also for securing the National Highway 2 to facilitate free movement of commercial trucks.
