Teachers to get 'home posting'

Imphal, March 01 2014 : Along with announcing that necessary official procedures for setting up of kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) in all the nine districts would be expe-dited, Education Minister Moi- rangthem Okendro said under the rationalisation policy tea-chers would be posted in schools in the same district they (teachers) hail from.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration function of a KGBV at Thamnapokpi of Moirang assembly constituency today, Minister Okendro said a recent cabinet meeting had decided to give 'home posting' to teachers in order to redress the problem of shortage of school teachers.

Apparently referring to contention that absence of ac-commodation has been the primary factor for attendance irregularities by teachers, he exuded confidence that implementation of the rationalisa- tion policy could effectively weed out the problem.

The Minister also confided that details of 17,000 teachers are being assessed to ensure that the rationalisation policy is implemented smoothly at the earliest possible.

Regarding KGBVs, Okendro said the residential educational institutions exclusively for girl students would be centrally-sponsored and accommodate girl students belonging to economically un- sound family or have none to care for.

In addition to their education from class VI to VIII standards free of cost students enrolled in KGBVs would be provided fooding and clothes along with Rs 900 monthly stipend to each of the student, said the Minister adding that medical expenses of the students would also be borne by the Government under the National Rural health Mission.

Conveying that despite only a total of 100 students supposed to be enrolled in each KGBV, 300 to 400 girl students have been awaiting inauguration of the same in Andro AC, he confided that Government is seriously planning to increase the collective seat-capacity in the State KGBVs to 3000 along with upgrading the class to XI and XII standards.

maintaining that the State Cabinet has also decided to establish more schools on the KGBV model, Okendro also informed that school monitoring committees with the local representatives (MLAs) as the chairmen have already been constituted for effective implementation of the upcoming institutions.

Speaking at the occasion, Parliamentary secretary for Sports and Tourism Mairen-bam Prithviraj said the Tham- napokpi KGBV has been functioning since February 11 at a rented building in Moirang bazar.

stating that the school building construction work started in July 2013, he also affirmed that remaining infrastructure development work including boundary fencing, sanitation and electricity connection would be completed at the earliest.

Besides Ministers Govindas Konthoujam (Com & Ind) and I Hemochandra (PHE), MLA Dr I Ibohalbi, Sanasam Bira Singh and T Mangibabu, Deputy Commissioner (Bishnupur) Jason A Shimray and officials of event host Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Bishnupur) also attended the inauguration programme during which local artistes staged various cultural programmes.
