Discussion on Human Rights Movement in Manipur held

A one day panel discussion on Revisiting Human Rights Movement in Manipur was held at Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Conference Hall in Imphal today under the joint organisation of Department of Social Work, IGNTU, Regional Campus, Manipur and Conflict and Human Rights Studies Network, Manipur.
Speaking as resource person at the occasion, social scientist, Dr.Dhanabir Laishram said that social movement within the people is very necessary in a democracy.
Pointing out that there are two kinds of society, namely the Government and the civil society, Dr Dhanabir said it is very important for the two to work hand-in-hand in a democracy to ensure peace and harmony.
He was speaking on the topic "Civil Society Movement" at the occasion.
The other resource persons present at the occasion were Professor M..CArun, Department of Anthropology, Manipur University who spoke on 'Women's Movement", Dr..EVarte, Department of Tribal studies, IGNTU, Regional Campus, Manipur who stressed on "Environmental Movement" and Dr..NPramod Singh, LMS Law College, Imphal who spoke on "Armed Conflict".
The discussion session was chaired by Professor W.Nabakumar Singh, Department of Anthropology, Manipur University.
