The Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) has appealed to all retail traders, dealers and shopkeepers at Khwairamband and other keithels to not increase the rate of essential items by taking advantage of the situation in Manipur.
In a statement, PPCM also appealed to all shopkeepers especially at Khwairamband Keithel to put a price list of their wares in front of their shops and refrain from selling expired items and manipulating weighing scales too.
Saying that the violence in Manipur has taken a heavy toll on the people and the shopkeepers need to understand it, PPCM said that they might take up strong action if any shop is found deceiving the consumers.
It went on to say that the Government also needs to monitor whether there is a hike in prices of essential goods at important keithels and penalise the defaulters as per the law of the land.
