MU Inter-College Youth Festival kicks off

Imphal, December 03 2022: The 34th Manipur University (MU) Inter-College Youth Festival 2022 began today in the complex of the varsity after a hiatus of two years due to Covid pandemic.

The opening ceremony of the three day festival was graced by MU Vice Chancellor Prof Naorem Lokendra; Dean of Student's Welfare Prof Moirangthem Premjit; Registrar Prof W Chandbabu and MUTA president Prof Irom Gambhir as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

A cultural procession by students and teachers of different participating institutes and colleges was the main event of the opening ceremony.

The cultural procession commenced from the office of Dean of Students' Welfare and culminated at the Centenary Hall, following which the VC hoisted a flag while the participants took an oath to act in a polite way during the festival.

Addressing the gathering at the Centenary Hall, VC Prof N Lokendra said that it was pleasant to see students and teachers of many colleges and institutions com- ing together after a gap of two years to attend the festival.

Saying that the Covid pandemic greatly affected the conduct of normal classes too, the VC stated that normalcy has now returned to all colleges and institutions affiliated to MU and they are all participating in the youth festival as per a direction of the Association of Indian Universities.

Altogether 600 students of 25 institutes and colleges registered for the festival, he said and added that competition on 25 events such as music, dance, literary, theatre and fine arts will be held during the three day festival, among others.

Prof N Lokendra continued that students can take many benefits from the festival and enhance their capacity on different fields as the festival provides them a platform to create opportunities, share ideas with fellow students and expand their social horizon and network in this world full of competitions.

He exuded confidence that all the participants will behave properly and ensure that the festival smoothly goes off smoothly.

Urging the students to not waste time but use it intelligently so as to become resourceful persons, the VC maintained that students must also focus on capacity building and learn new skills apart from gaining academic knowledge.

Later, Prof N Lokendra released a souvenir, while students of Department of Dance & Music performed an orchestral musical feature christened "Rhythm of Peace" .
