Imphal, May 05:
The proscribed RPF has pulled up Professor Rajen Toijamba of the Manipuri Department of Manipur University on the charge that he did not follow the suggestions laid down by the outfit earlier to select students in the various entrance tests in different courses for admission to MU.
To correct the flaws in the process of selecting candidates through the different entrance tests, the RPF had laid down certain guidelines earlier and this has had a positive impact, said a spokesperson from the Dept of Communication and Publicity while speaking to reporters somewhere at CCpur district today.
However, Prof Rajen Toijamboa not only violated the laid down guidelines but also exerted pressure to select candidates of his choice in the entrance examination for PhD course in the Manipuri Department.
The test was held on January 30 .
Moreover Rajen also tampered the marks of the candidates, alleged the spokesperson.
For example, the contentious answer sheets do not carry the signatures of the teachers at the back of the paper while those in the clean are all signed by the teachers.
The marks of one candidate were reduced to bring them below the marks scored by the candidate chosen by him, alleged the spokesperson further.
When matter came to light about the misdemeanour, two candidates who deserved to be selected but were rejected by Prof Rajen were selected by Selection Committee, said the outfit and thanked the HoD for the good work done.
The candidates who made it through the backdoor were however allowed to continue with their course by the RPF considering their academic future, but they warned not to repeat such practise in future.
The spokesperson did not spell out what penalty would be awarded to Prof Rajen, but said that since he has violated his moral obligation as a teacher, it would be left to his conscience to do what he thinks is best.
On the protest staged inside the MU campus on February 26, the spokesperson asked the president of MUSU not to repeat such acts in future and explained that the president may have a different view, but the RPF as an organisation also has its own views.
The RPF turned its attention to the selection process for the PhD course keeping in mind the future of the students and the people.
The MUSU president ought to realise this.
