Imphal, October 26 2023:
Taking strong exception to the order to bring Meetei Leepun chief M Pramotchand to Churachandpur, the Union of Treatment & Rehabilitation of Users for Social Transformation (U-TRUST) has asked Kuki Students' Organisation (Kuki) to withdraw the case filed against the leader of the cultural organisation.
Meetei Leepun, in a statement, said that the direction to bring Pramotchand to Churachandpur while the tension between Meeteis and Kukis is at its peak is illogical.
U-Trust further said that there is no demand from the valley people to bring any Kuki leader to Imphal though they openly demanded disintegration of Manipur and distorted history other than filing FIRs against them given the tense situation in the State and to prevent escalation of violence.
"What is the motive behind the order to bring Meetei Leepun chief to Churachandpur.
Is it to prolong the violence and permanently divide the Meeteis and Kukis or demoralise those who come at the forefront to safeguard Manipur," it asked.
Saying that U-Trust kept countless Kuki drug addicts to safe places and sent them back to their native places during the peak of the violence, it added that some rehabilitation centres were torched while some others were closed for providing shelter to Kuki drug addicts.
U-Trust continued that M Pramotchand has been working for the cause of Manipur since the issue of drug and HIV/AIDS was prevalent and widespread across the State.
The Meetei Leepun has also been playing the key role to unite the Meeteis and to preserve the identity of the ethnic group.
