Senapati, October 26 2023:
Opposing the 'Cabinet decision' to upgrade Lakhamai Primary Health Centre (PHC) of Senapati district to Community Health Centre (CHC), the Phaibung Khullen Village Authority Council informed that there is no PHC in Lakhamai.
In a statement, the Phaibung Khullen Village Authority Council has asserted that Lakhamai only has a PHSC (Primary Health Sub-Centre) which is covered under the Phaibung PHC.
Delving into the history of Phaibung PHC, the Council shared that the Phaibung PHC was upgraded from PHSC to PHC in 1989 and the people have been waiting for 34 years for its upgradation to the level of CHC.
Thus, the Phaibung Khullen Village Authority Council has appealed to the State Government to upgrade Phaibung PHC to CHC reasoning that Phaibung Khullen Block is one of the most underdeveloped and neglected areas despite having a huge population and vast area covering numerous villages.
The Council also pointed out that Phaibung PHC is easily accessible, convenient and centrally located for the people around the area as three major roads connect and pass through Phaibung Khullen village, namely, NH 102, Maram-Phaibung State Highway and Senapati-Phaibung Road.
Moreover, Chilivai Phaibung SDO/BDO, police station, UCO Bank etc are located at Phaibung Khullen, which has a population of more than 6000 people.
Thus, the Council has stressed that proper healthcare facilities is one of the most essential requirements for the people and subsequently appealed for the upgradation of Phaibung PHC to the level of CHC.
