Man convicted

The Court of Special Judge POCSO Fast Track Special Number 1 has on Thursday convicted a 34 year old man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor on June 4, 2018 somewhere in Bishnupur district.
Konthoujam Robindro from Bishnupur was convicted under Section 6 of POCSO Act.
The convict who is on bail appeared for the sentence hearing along with the counsel before the Court today.
The Court heard the submission of M Bishambhor, Special PP for the State who contended that the crime committed by the convict was heinous and as such he deserves maximum punishment laid down by the law.
The defence counsel, on the other hand, argued that the convict is married and a daily wager while praying for minimum punishment.
The defence counsel also submitted that the convict had already undergone 6 months and 20 days in judicial custody during the investigation.
The Court, after hearing the Special PP and defence counsel, convicted Robindro and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment but set off the time he spent in judicial custody from the quantum of punishment.
The convict was also asked to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 for the crime he had committed.
The Court directed the State Government to provide Rs one lakh to the victim under Victim Compensation Fund or other schemes of the State Government within one month.
