Thoubal, October 26 2023:
The Langmeithet Youth Development Association (LYDA) has prohibited the disposal of garbage and carcasses of birds and animals at Yerumching.
This measure was taken in view of the detection of pigs who tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF) in Thoubal district, as per a statement jointly issued by Maibam Naoba Singh, president, LYDA and Maibam Sunin Singh, secretary, LYDA.
The statement pointed out that Yerumching connects Langmeithet village with its neighbours namely, Uyal, Thouchom and Bengi villages.
The areas by the roadside of Yerumching have become a garbage disposal site where people from different localities come to discard carcasses of dead birds and animals as well as plucked feathers of such animals.
The stench emanating from this site has perturbed not only the residents but also the commuters and pedestrians along the road which include young students.
In addition, seeing the possibility of the spread of more diseases due to this unchecked garbage disposal site, LYDA imposed the restriction.
Thus, LYDA has sought the support and cooperation of nearby villagers to enforce this prohibition.
Further, LYDA has also appealed to people involved in poultry farming and animal husbandry to bury the carcass of their dead birds and animals for safety and collect and dispose of their household wastes properly.
Those found violating the prohibition should bear responsibility for the consequences, cautioned LYDA.
