Imphal, March 04 2024:
While urging the government to repair the dilapidated Imphal-Pangei Road, Imphal-Pangei Road Joint Development Committee has threatened to launch intense form of agitation if the demand is not honoured at the earliest.
The Committee formed by 4 clubs of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, Khurai Puthiba Leikai and Khurai Heikrumakhong had been appealing to the chief minister, works minister and other related officials to repair the road and even set deadlines but no action has been taken up till date, following which a sit-in protest was organised at Khurai Puthiba Leikai Chandam Lampak, on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest, Committee spokesperson Asem Inao Meitei recounted that the Committee had on January 13 urged authority concerned through a press statement to repair the Imphal-Pangei Road as condition of the said stretch posed threat to vehicle operators as well as commuters.
Consequent to indifferent attitude of authority concerned, the Committee set deadline of February 29 to repair the road and threatened to block the same if not repaired, in memorandum addressed to all concerned.
However, since the demand has not been upheld till date, the sit-in protest was staged instead of going ahead with the road blockade plan considering the on-going class 12 exam conducted by CBSE and the upcoming Matric examination.
He further stated that as the Imphal-Pangei road which starts from Lamlong Thongkhong and stretches till Pangei has not been repaired for a long time, the same is prone to accident, apart from obstructing movement in times of emergencies.
