Murder accused duo remanded to police custody

Thoubal, January 16 2023: Thoubal Chief Judicial Magistrate on Monday remanded Shaikhom Kumar and his brother Binoy of Khangabok Makha Leikai in Thoubal district to five days in police custody in connection with the controversial death of Kumar's wife namely Shaikhom (Ongbi) Shanti, who was found dead on her own bed on January 9.Meanwhile, on receiving information that the duo, who had been in police custody in connection with the case, would be produced in the court for further hearing, womenfolk and relatives of the deceased stormed the court complex demanding that the accused persons should not be granted bail, charge be framed against them and given punishment according to law.

However, teams of Thoubal district police arrived timely and controlled the crowd.

Speaking to the media, one of the woman protestors urged authorities concerned not to release husband of the deceased woman and his brother on any condition but be sentenced to life imprisonment as punishment.
