First multi-vessel coronary stenting performed in state

Sky Hospital conducted the first multi-vessel coronary stenting for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) in Manipur, saving the life of a 64 year old man.
According to Sky hospital media and publicity officer Oinam Latasha Devi, 64-year old Dhanapati Pokhrel of Senapati district was brought to the emergency block on June 16 in critical condition.
The patient was immediately resuscitated with chief cardiologist leading the Emergency Heart Attack Treatment Centre, Latasha informed, adding that the first 4 hours and 30 minutes was a challenging time to save his life where the patient started gasping despite receiving oxygen at the rate of 900 litres per hour when timely mechanical ventilator support was initiated.
After giving heart support with 5 inotropic drugs at maximum doses the patient started to respond with reasonable intra-arterial mean.
Subsequently, the patient's coronary angiography, was taken with the result showing multi-vessel disease (triple-vessel disease) requiring either Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery or high risk non-operative 3 Stents-coronary angioplasty with the support of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) .
With the patient's family opting for a non-surgical procedure, the multi vessel coronary stenting procedure was conducted which took 4 hours.
The patient was also given ventilator support for 9 days after PCI, Latasha in formed.
After providing intensive treatment with life support drugs and machines 24X7, the patient started to eat and drink, mobilise, and subsequently discharged from the hospital, Latasha informed.
