Assam Rifles of IGAR(S) organised a solemn ceremony to honour the supreme sacrifices made by riflemen Bhagwan Singh and Brajanabi Sharma in the line of duty.
According to PRO IGAR (S), rifleman Bhagwan Singh joined Assam Rifles in November 1988 .
On January 13, 1997, while deployed in Jammu & Kashmir, he displayed exemplary courage during a patrol near Bachchepura.
As part of a team under the command of Capt Kuldeep Singh, Bhagwan Singh retaliated against an ambush, facing an IED blast and heavy firing.
Despite suffering bullet injuries to his neck, he valiantly defended his team.
Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the nearest medical facility.
According to the PRO, rifleman Brajanabi Sharma made the supreme sacrifice on January 14,1998 while battling 20-30 insurgents attempting to extort money from bus passengers near Kaimai on January 11, 1998 .
Despite sustaining critical injuries, he exhibited extraordinary courage, however, he succumbed to head injuries, the PRO informed.
