Tributes paid to heroes and martyrs

Imphal, March 30 2024:
Justice Committee on Anglo Manipur War 1981, Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur) paid tribute to the heroes and martyrs who laid down their lives defending Kangla from the British imperialist attack on March 24, 1891.In a release, the committee reminded that Pukhrambam Tangko, Khumbong Subedar, Leisang Jamadar, Athokpa Dewan, Keisha Jamandar along with two Tangkhuls and a Brahman were killed during the attack by British led by Lieutenant Brackenbury.
A total number of 34 people were killed in the attack, he informed, while adding that Kangla attack by British was successfully defended by the heroes who fought fearlessly.
Meanwhile another release issued by Pukram-ba Tanko Memorial Trust informed that floral tributes were paid to the memorial of Tanko, the first hero of Manipur-Anglo War, located at Kameng Mayai Leikai Pukhramba Hingol.
The programme was attended by Pukramba Tanko Memorial Trust president Thokchom Sundaram Singh, general secretary Maisnam Joykumar Luwang and Maisnam Kesho Luwang.
A book penned by Sinam Heramani Khuman titled 'Leima Manga' was also released as a part of the programme.
