In connection with the 'Jal Diwali' campaign of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under 'Water for women, women for water campaign', an exposure visit to Chingkheiching and Porompat for women Self Help Groups (SHGs) was flagged off by MAHUD minister Y Khemchand from City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, here, on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion after distributing field kits to the SHG members, Khemchand explained that the Jal Diwali campaign has been launched to encourage women across the country for judicious use of water.
As part of the campaign, members of women SHGs will visit two water treatment plants in the state to learn about the processes involved, he said.
Expressing concern over recession of water level of rivers in the state due to climate change, he remarked that failure to address the trend will lead to severe water shortage in the future.
In'some places located near water supply schemes, people do not turn off the tap water, while other areas do not get a.drop of water.
Thus, the campaign aims to cultivate a habit of efficient and frugal use of water amongst the masses through the help of SHGs, he conveyed.
In all, 30 SHG members are participating in the campaign, which is being organised in collaboration with AMRUT State Mission, Deen-dayal Antyodaya Yojana DAYNULM State Mission and PHED.
The flag-off ceremony was also attended by MAHUD commissioner M Joy, AMRUT state mission director and other officials.
