Mega legal services camps conducted

Imphal, November 10 2022: As part of NALSA's Pan India Awareness and Outreach Campaign, Churachandpur District Legal Service Author ity (DLSA) and 36 Assam Rifles jointly organised a mega legal service empowerment camp at Chief Judicial Magistrate court premises located within the mini secretariat, Tuibuong, Churachandpur on Thursday.

As a part of the camp, different stalls were set up by various government departments including that of CMO 'for processing CMHT/PMJAY cards, labour department for handing over labour cards, project manager (handloom) for issuing weaver cards, CMO/DSWO for providing UDID/disability cards, DAO (Agriculture) for facilitating possession of farmers' cards, additional DC for issuing ILP, etc.

Moreover, a pre Lok Adalat sitting, free medical camp by 36 AR, free legal counselling and legal aid services with free affidavits, Aadhaar/pan card and opening of bank accounts were conducted.

Under the supervision of ZEO, children with severe disabilities were also enrolled in mainstream schools as part of inclusive education for disabled schemes of the SSA.

Delivering the keynote address, District & Sessions judge Lamkhanpau Tonsing highlighted the need to spread awareness among the masses about the welfare schemes and called upon stakeholders concerned to create socially durable assets for the community.

He also stated that as many people are deprived of the benefits of the welfare schemes launched by the government from time to time, there is urgent need to prioritise convenient accessibility by the public while implementing government schemes.

According to additional deputy commissioner Khaikhopau Ngaihte, the aim of the programme is to create awareness among the people about their rights and different welfare schemes and laws enacted by the government for empowering the citizens.

Churachandpur district administration is on the process of providing direct benefits of the schemes and so far wages of the job card holders have been transferred directedly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, he informed, while citing it as an example of movement towards economic equality.

Pointing out that social justice as assured in the directive principles of state policy are being provided, Khaikhopau said that the government is giving disability certificate and other economic benefits as a part of it.

Saikot MLA Paolenlal Haokip, Churachandpur SP Shivanand Surve, CMO Dr Kimngaihching Simte, Chief Judicial Magistrate/Civil Judge (Senior Division), Churachandpur Sorokhaibam Sadananda Singh, DLOs, and staff from different departments were also present on the occasion.

Similarly, DLSA, Tamenglong along with Manipur State Legal Services Authority under NLSA organised a day-long legal awareness programme at Christian Grammar School, Tingkham Square, Tamenglong on Thursday.

The awareness programme was attended by DLSA secretary Dr Laishram Rina, School principal Clement H Panmei, advocate Daniel P Kamsuan, teaching, non-teaching staff and students of the school and Para Legal Volunteers of Tamenglong Legal Aid Clinic.

During the programme, advocate P Kamusa spoke on 'Prohibition of child marriage' as a resource person and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials distributed to the attendees.

Meanwhile, as part of the door-to-door mobile campaign on 'Empowerment of Citizens through legal awareness and outreach' launched by DLSA, Imphal West; Wangoi SDO Heisnam Sukumar flagged off Manipur State Legal Sendees Authority Utility van from his office on Thursday.

The flag off programme was attended by Patsoi SDO, DLSA, Imphal West representatives and law interns.
